Sufjan Stevens’ Illinois

Well, it turns out that one of my favorite recording artists is releasing his fifth album this summer, and after hearing his new song Casimir Pulaski Day I have to say I’m ready for long afternoons wishing I was floating down a river somewhere, with this album on repeat.

The significance of this album is great: this will be Sufjan Stevens’ fifth album, and his second foray into state-themed albums, after his third album (and one of my favorite albums of all-time) Greetings from Michigan, the Great Lakes State. He has said that he’s planning an album for each state. He also plays something like 18 different instruments on each recording.

And I must see him again this summer. Anybody? Anybody?

July 23rd– San Diego, CA- Casbah (with Liz Janes)
July 24th– Los Angeles, CA- 89.9 KCRW Presents Sufjan Stevens at the Troubadour
July 25th– Sacramento, CA- Old Ironsides

Or, to see him in the same venue as before, which was an unbelievable one:

July 31st– San Francisco, CA- Great American Music Hall
